Evidence-Based Interventions

In my practice, I use evidence-based interventions.  Evidence-based interventions or approaches have been proven to be effective through extensive research.

Interventions assist a person with improving his/her social, emotional, and mental well-being.

There are many evidence-based practices to choose from.  This gives me the ability to tailor your treatment to your unique and individual needs.

I use an integrative or holistic approach to treat both mental health/substance use disorders as well as other issues that occur in your life. These other issues may include general stress, grief/loss, and anger management. Using an integrative approach to treatment allows me to use different approaches to meet your unique needs.

I have focused my training primarily on the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an umbrella that encompasses several other evidence-based practices to include Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy.

CBT has been shown to be quite effective in treating depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness.

CBT is a combination of Cognitive Therapy (help you identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and to learn practical self-help strategies) and Behavioral Therapy (form of therapy that help you to identify and change potentially self-destructive or unhealthy behaviors.  It is based on the idea that all behaviors are learned and can be changed). Treatment is centered around how someone’s thoughts and beliefs influence their actions and moods.

CBT is a solution-focused approach. The goal of CBT is to teach you how to be your own therapist by providing strategies that will help you to evaluate your thinking and behaving and have more control over your life. The emphasis is on providing you with the tools you need to make progress towards the goals you set.

Other benefits of CBT include:

• CBT is firmly based on research findings

• CBT is goal-oriented and zeroes in on specific problems

• CBT emphasizes collaboration with the therapist and active participation from the

    client

• CBT is highly structured and directive

• CBT is rooted in the here and now

• CBT emphasizes relapse prevention

• CBT is time-limited

• CBT involves a variety of techniques

• CBT invites client feedback
